    Default First Snow Bunting

After it snowed yesterday, I thought I should check out my local winter finch place and didn't get disappointed. There were many Horned Larks and a few Lapland Longspurs and Snow Buntings.

Lovely light Axel and perfect posture. Image seems slightly overexposed on my monitor?

Thanks, Chris! I double-checked the histogram and it looks good. Maybe it is the reflection of the snow that makes it look very bright?

Thanks, Joe! I had enough light and wanted a bit extra depth of focus since these birds can get quite close.

    Axel:

The soft light and fill reflection off the snow really helped with your exposure here. Like the comp., sharpness and muted colors.

Very nice composition, Background, Pose and head angle. The highlights do look a little bright to me also, and maybe just a tad too much saturation.

I would tone down the highlights above the eye and the wing edges. I like the HA.

A bit denser/darker overall would work for me. Head angle and pose are sweet. I am still trying to figure out how you get so close to these birds.... Are they coming to seed or just looking for natural food? Are you at all concealed?

There is a birder how feeds them. You can either use the car as blind or sit in the snow and wait for them to get used to you. The only problem is that it is very close to a road and the birds take off whenever a car goes by.

I will play around with the file to see what it looks like if I make it darker.

Thanks for all suggestions and comments. I took the midtones to 0.9 and desaturated 5 points.

The repost is an improvement. I am thinking about driving up from FLA. ;) IAC, you have at least one nice situation nearby.

Sure, I would be happy to show you the area. There needs to be enough snow or ice on the ground, otherwise the birds are all over the place.

Well, then there are not many good reasons to be in FL anyway. I will tell the buntings to be prepared next December. :)

Very nice image, I like the lighting and pose on the snow. Original looks fine to my untrained eye.

Super nice image. Wish I could taken photos of birds in the snow.
I like the repost better. I'm sure your image is level but the birds seems to be going downhill.

Exposure looks good to me, and I like the soft colours. One day I would like to photograph in snow to experience exposure control.

Love the re-post, pose and snowy setting are nice.
Still haven't seen any of them around here yet this season.
