    Default Barred Owl

I posted this in Avian and got some comments to increase the contrast and remove a branch. Thought I would postthe rework here. I am proud of this image. Did a worskhop with Ray Barlow (he posts in Avian fairly regularly and lives near me).We saw about five different barred owls that day. Very foggy. It was an amazing day to see these beautiful birds, but was not impressed by how some of the photographers were harassing the birds for shots (they were real amateurs with 200mm lenses). They flushed the birds numerous times.

The fog does not bother me but maybe a slight crop from the left to get him off center.

I would be proud too Jackie! I rather like the feel of the fog. The only thing in this that sort of distracts me is the bit of branch ULH corner and I think that is because it stands out. Maybe fade it a bit?

Love the owls 'look' super fine.

I think he's wonderful. Love the fog and the setting as is. I agree that it would be nice to do a small crop so he's not dead center. Happy New Year's eve!

OH! How I would love to be able to get shots like this. Vey nice.

This may sound crazy and a bit too muchm BUT, what if you removed the "Timber" from behind the owl and replaced it with the leaves surrounding him. Doesn't seem to be such a hard cloning job and it would make him stand out more. Just my opinion.

    Lady Jackie,
I like the image and capture with fog and all...would only suggest taking the branch on the upper left side of the frame. Wishing you a very Happy New Year...I'll see you soon down my neck of the woods...:D:p:cool:

Thanks for the comments everyone, this was such a great day to see the owls. Vince, if I were retired and had lots of time on my hands I might try your suggestion. Maybe next time I'll get them with more greenery.

A beauty, Jackie. I love the soft foggy feeling to it. The tree behind the bird doesn't bother me, but the ULH corner does distract a bit, as noted by Gus, Lance and Nonda. I'm envious, and still waiting to get my first decent owl image. Well done. And have a Happy New Year!
