Captured this male Downy Woodpecker in a backyard set-up. Cloned out some wood chips around the head area and part of the perch at the bottom.

The exposure looks fine, the background is nice, and the tree the downy is perched on has some nice texture. You got a bit of a catchlight in the eye and the shadows are well managed.

The difference between "Good" and "Wow" on this one is the head posiiton. I don't care for the head position. Ideally it would be looking toward the left side of the frame. As presented, I might crop a little off the right side.

Angle, sharpness and BG look good. I wish for a bit more eye contact and would tone down the highlights, especially on the tail.

Always something isn't it. ;) But it's interesting to hear what is liked or disliked. The problem I have when they look to the left side of the frame is the beak intersects the perch.
