Default Bald Eagle Screaming, Homer, Alaska

Canon 500mm f/4 L IS lens and 20D body. ISO 200. Evaluative metering at zero; 1/250 sec. at f/13 in Program mode. Fill flash with Better Beamer.

I hope the hundreds of eagles that came to Jean Keene's place every day are doing OK now without her.

    C & C welcomed.

Liked the way you composed this shot. The placement of head is right where it should be. Beautiful BG and excellent sharpness to go with the spot-on exposure. Very well done. Looking forward to seeing more from you Jim.

I'm trying to think what is it that I LOVE about this image,
and it must be the flash usage. You've got an excellent exp
in a very difficult situation (it seems that the bird is back-lit right?).
Can you tell us the flash setting?
Prefect HA, and a screaming eagle of course make it even better.
    Congrats!

Sweet use of flash and a great head angle and calling pose. And a nice even exposure.

    Hi All,

Thanks for all your comments. Artie, it was March of 2007. I went up there on my own. Ilija, yes, I think the bird was back-lit. As for flash setting, I checked my exif data and was surprised to see no indication of flash exposure compensation. I'm pretty sure I was somewhere between -1 and -2.

Well done here Jim, perfect composition and the exposure with fill flash professionally handled! The high depth of field worked well for you here.

Fantastic head portrait! You dialed in the fill flash perfectly and that really helped show the details in the mouth area.
