    Default snail Kite (female)

A yr long quest to get a decent Snail Kite image came to an end.

    Model: NIKON D2X
    ISO: 200
    Exposure: 1/640 sec
    Aperture: 5.6
    Focal Length: 550mm
On Gitzo tripod and wimberley head from an air-boat.

(small smudge to be cleaned just above the tail - this was a quick and excited edit)

Male SK in the next post.

    cheers
    Gavin

This is a wonderful image and looks super sharp! Love the color of the bird, and the fact that all detail is visible in the dark under-wing. Composition on these single bird flight shots can be difficult to figure, but I think you made the very best of this opportunity. You left ample room below the bird, and you placed it out-of-center. Oh yea ... great shot! :)

You did well to capture this "hunting" pose, but would prefer the wings extended fully up, and there is a heavy blue cast to the image which should be easily remedied during post-processing. Can't wait to see the male in your next post!

I always struggle with color casts. I think this might be better (not the quick edit).
