    The gorget feathers on the side of the throat definitely peg it as a hatch-year male. This pic still doesn't definitively ID it as Rufous vs. Allen's, although I still lean towards Rufous based on the previous photo's impression of the tail. If you have a clear shot of the mantle or the tail, that would probably resolve it. A young male Rufous this time of year should have some orange feathers coming into the mantle, and an Allen's would not.

    Yes, perfect. It's definitely a hatch-year male Rufous based on the orange coming into the back.
