The prestigious Houghton Golf Course in Johannesburg was closed for maintenance, and the friendly guards were happy to restrain their vicious dogs and allow me access for a few hours, in return for a few Rands. I enjoyed the breeding Dikkops and Plovers, and the beautiful open area, safe, in the middle of the crazy city.

Great action Nevil - are they insects or is it kicking up divots with such withering speed?

    cheers

Can't help but smile looking at this bird in a hurry. Would ask the same question about the bits of dirt or insects. Love the movement in the bird and the detail in the feathers as well as the depth of field.

I think insects -- one of those things you see in greater detail after processing than you do through the lens...
