    Default Male Northern Harrier

Weather has been dark and gloomy in recently and photography opportunities have been limited. I made this photo yesterday in Palo Alto Baylands. It was somewhat challenging as the harrier was flying faster and BG was changing rapidly between water, grass and sky and I had little time to dial in the appropriate exposure compensation. I manged to pull a few frames with the wing position that I liked. Here is one

7D + 400 f/5.6 @ f/7.1 1/1600sec ISO 800 sw: Canon DPP 3.7.2 Digital processing, I cloned out a few patches in BG and ran NR on BG after crop.

    Hope you like it.

Thanks William, indeed now I can easily shoot ISO 800 in mixed light conditions and keep the shutter speed up for these guys without worrying too much about noise! The image that you see has no noise reduction applied to the bird and the bird is only ~ 1400 pixels in RAW!

This is really excellent! Looks very sharp to me, awesome pose and eye contact. I am pleased to see such a good shot made with the 7D - very well done!

I like the light, angle, wing position and slight head turn toward you. As for the changing BG, did you use manual or AV?

    Hi Arash,
Very nice bird, nice wingposition, great light and BG. I would only wish for a bit more headturn towards you. Otherwise very nice!

Nicely done Arash. Great light and good sharpness. A bit more eye contact would be nice, but it's still a fine image.
