    Default American white pelican

    40D. 400 f/5.6 at f/6.3. iso 400. 1/1000. fill flash.

Do you think more room is needed at top and a little less below? I wanted enough room for virtual feet and then some more.

I have kept the whites really white....so here's a question for you experts. When you have a white bird directly sunlit, how bright do you usually keep the whites? 240+ or 230-240 or 220-230?

    Thanks in advance.

I like the pose, angle and exposure control. The composition looks good to me as presented. If anything maybe a very slight crop off the bottom.

What a wonderful pose! That makes the image.

I would add a little canvas at top and right, and trim some of the bottom. The whites have a blueish cast; setting white/black points will take care of that. Great capture!

Beautiful preening pose with nice BG and good details. I also see a subtle cast which has been eliminated in the repost. TFS

The whites looked fine to me in the original until David improved them. Here is a very fine point. Had the bird's head been perfectly square to the back of the camera you would have seen a bit more of the colorful skin on the neck.
