Hi Gus, they are all life size and it is presumed the artists used real soldiers of the emperor's army to model the warriors. Interestingly their height is determined by their ranks with Generals being the tallest and strongest. So far they have uncovered three pits with an estimate of about 8000 warriors. It takes about an year to restore one warrior and only a small fraction has been restored so far. Some of the other pits have significant damage caused by the conquering army following the death of the Emperor Qin. Here is the image of the largest pit...

What a magnificient sight. I actually enjoyed the second image even more due to the perspective. What was the purpose of all these warriors?

Hi Lana, the warriors were for the Emperor to rule another world after his death. Here are more details in wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terracotta_Army

Thanks for the information. I have seen some of the warriors when they were in a display on China that was in the US. Seeing a few were incredible but to see an entire pit of them would be incredible.
