I've photographed a fair number of Kestrels, but I believe this is by far my favorite. I just happened upon this male sitting on a great perch at near eye level (usually, I photograph kestrels at the tops of trees or perched on a sign). The stars were in alignment with this guy. Created from my car a couple of weeks ago.

Reason: shot
Excellent image, Doug! I really like everything about this, the DOF, the head angle and eye contact with your subject, the background, and the overall mood. I can't find anything that I'd like to change. Great work.
Very nice, Doug! Great shooting angle, detail and exposure: the eye has not been rendered completely black which often happens with this species when trying to control the highlights.
Fabulous bird, BKGR, EXP, and image design. I wish only that the bill was not a bit lost in the plumage. That said, I really wish that this were mine...
later and love, artie

Doug: Glad to see this shot posted here. A great image of the kestral with a perfect background. I'd still only do one thing to this.. Print it REALLY BIG and hang it on the wall.
