    Taken in July of this year. Heavy crop, sharpened in DPP, contrast and image highlight adjusted in CS.
    Tv( Shutter Speed )1/500
    Av( Aperture Value ) 7.1
    Metering Mode Evaluative Metering
    Exposure Compensation 0
    ISO Speed 800
    Lens EF 600 mm f/4L IS USM +1.4x (840 mm).

    I like the soft background with just a touch of colour, sets off the bird well. On my screen the image has suffered a bit from the heavy cropping which I suppose can't be helped. However, you still have good detail in the bird and I like the texture and colour you have captured. The red of the back of the neck threw me at first as my eye saw it as a red throat but then noticed the head angle and I felt quite dizzy! :o Very nice, despite my initial vertigo. :)

    Possibly a juvenile considering the time of year the image was taken, Ralph. Interesting presentation of the breast feathers that give the species its name. Was the bird fresh out of water?

    This was taken within a few yards of a bird feeder. there was no water in sight.

    I assumed the coloration at the base of the mandible and on the chest was the result of something the bird was eating. Am I wrong?
