Default Windows 7 - Any Problems

Hi from waaaaaaaaaaaaay down under :D

Just received my free upgrade copy of W7 and, of course, there was a warning to check with 3rd-party software manufcturers for compatibility.

On the photographic processing side of things, I am using BreezeBrowser, Adobe LR and CS4, Topaz Suite, Pixel Genius Sharpener, and Nik Viveza.

Anyone that is using or installed a W7 upgrade; any problems?

    Thanks,
    Cheers, Jay

    Jay,
While I am generally hearing good things about W7, personally if I were in your shoes, about to get very very remote on a trip, I wouldn't do any upgrades. "If it ain't broke--don't fix it!" Enjoy your trip.

Having said that, it would be interesting to hear people's experiences with photo software on W7.

One more caveat: A system admin at work recently stated. The thing I hate about windows is you can take two identical hardware machines, and using the same install disk put windows on both machines using the same install scripts yet one machine will not work correctly and you can spend weeks trying to find the problem, and once found find there is no way to fix it.

I should mention this is not meant to be a slight at windows, just a statement of fact. I do use windows.

I think Nik's plug-ins don't work in Windows 7 64-bit version. Supposedly Niksoftware will provide a fix before the year-end and e-mail the registered users about it. I haven't heard of any update yet (as of Dec 27). If anybody knows more, please share.

Oh, Viveza 2, according to Niksoftware, should work in the 64-bit version. But that's a $99 fix :)

I'm using Windows 7 Pro 32 bit and all is fine here, practically installs itself... You also have XP compatibility mode, which helps if some apps you have are not compatible yet... One thing though, I would stay away from upgrades (personal choice) as if something does go south on your pc, you'll have to install whatever you were using previously, then 7.... Nothing like a fresh install with a full version...

    Jay,
I'm using Windows 7 Professional 64 on my desktop and Windows 7 Home Premium 32 on my laptop.
Much more stable than Vista IMO. I use almost none of the bells and whistles available.

So from a dependability stand point, I'm very happy with it.

one more happy User of the 64 bit W7 :)

In my opinion it outperforms Vista in every regard.

All the Nik software works fine on Win7 64 bit. It will install itself as 32bit, 64bit or both versions depending on what you buy. I haven't found anything that I use that won't work, and it is very stable. No re-boots in 2 months other than when I install something new.

Just installed Windows 7 64 bit, and both 32 bit and 64 bit version of Photoshop CS4. Found Niksoftware and Topaz only work in Photoshop 32 bit version. In Photoshop 64 bit, none of them show up.

No problems with Windows 7 64bit

no issues with Canon Digital Photo Professional, Adobe Photoshop CS4 64bit, PTgui v8.3.3 64bit image sticher, Neat Image v6.1 64 bit, or PTlens 64bit plugin or standalone version.

Windows 7 has worked very well as an OS with no app issues.
