This is an image taken in my backyard using a feeder to attract birds. This was last spring when the parents were just beginning to show the youngsters around. Canon 40D, 300 2.8L + 1.4TC, 1/250 sec., f/5.6, iso 320. I used usual photoshop processing, also cloned out a branch behind the bird's head. Thanks for looking, all critiques welcomed.
I like the eye contact, open beak and soft light. I might put the bird a bit further to the left in the frame. Some parts of the bird look softer than others, did you run NR on the plumage?
I prefer the comp of the repost Joel, but don't forget to fill the black line in URC! There is a soft spot along the contour of the forehead, most likely caused by cloning out the branch. I also find the image has a greenish cast to it. I love the dynamic pose of the woodpecker - open bill is a great bonus!!
The original image was a great place to start, but I prefer the composition of the repost. I also agree that the bird could be a little sharper. Nice image!
