    Default Long-tailed Duck

I went to Conowingo yesterday morning but the eagles were not really doing anything. On my way back I took a 'little' detour to Barnegat Light, which was a great idea. There were lots of sea ducks near the jetty, all kinds of scoters except white-winged, eiders, mergansers, harlequins and long-tailed ducks. It was very windy, this is why the tail is shaped like this.

    Happy Holidays!

Beautiful image. I like that you caught him/her on the up-swell. The tail as well as the water give the viewer a real feel of the windy conditions.Excellent eye contact. My inexperienced eye can not find any faults.

I just love the fantastic light and the contrast between the bird, riding the wave, and the beautiful blue. Excelent exposure job, as always. The species is one of my favorite ducks and the tail raised by the wing is a nice touch in the composition.
    Espléndida!! :)

Nice capture with the tail upraised. Lovely water color, detail, composition and exposure. In my few visits to Barnegat these guys have always been at considerable distance from the jetty. Time for another trip.

Gorgeous shot, Axel. The duck is beautifully shot and the water is perfect. The wind really grabbed that tail and added to the shot and I love the water drops.

Thanks, Bill! I was there around 12:30 PM and the ducks were pretty much at the end of the jetty near the fog horn. If you go, you might want to bring earplugs. :)

Great job handling the relatively harsh light. I love that tail! Nice HA, exposure and BG too. Must have been difficult with the wind and the choppy water.

    Well Done!

Water texture looks perfect. Like the tail and the detail in the head/eye.

Count me in agreement with the many positives mentioned above. My only wish is that we could see more of the breast. Photographing ducks in choppy waves is a real challenge so kudos for pulling that off.

How was the footing near the end of the jetty? And thanks for the heads-up call; I was three hours away!

Thanks, Artie! There was hardly any ice on the jetty and walking on it was not a problem at all.

Interesting you mention the chest, I looked at the images and for some reason the chest is almost always pretty low, maybe to stay balanced?

Beautiful species and lovely light and low angle. You did well under difficult sea conditions:)
