This little guy posed nicely on a fresh snow surface. This species loves to forage on the ground and provides endless snow-on-the-ground opportunities. Taken at a feeder set-up.

    Canon 40D + 100-400L @400mm, evaluative metering, manual exposure (metered of snow, +2 stops), 1/125s., f/6.3, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, about 90% full-frame.

    Daniel:

Excellent soft light with nice fill from the snow. Good head angle, sharpness and exposure.
Nice shooting angle. I bet you got wet/snowy on this one.

    Cheers and Merry Christmas

Daniel, I like the depth that the snow has created in the BG. Very nice details and pose. Happy Holidays to you and your family:D

Angle, sharpness and setting look good. It would have been great to see more of the feet. Did you lighten the iris? I might make the bird a tad lighter.

Handsome little fellow, with his colors nicely shown against the snowy BG. Nice pose and angle. Had you thought of lightening the eye a tad?

A very nice, simple portrait. The bird looks very handsome and healthy.

Lovely pose and I really like the softness of the photo and no lose of detail. Well done. Dave

    Hey thanks guys!

Axel, yes I did lighten the eye, and yes the bird could be a tad brighter. Having said this my external flash has gone kaput...time to get another one (this image would have looked great with some fill).

Bill, not only have I thought of lightening the eye...but I did so too :).
