Active pose, like splash at feet, wave, color of background.

I am not sure about the lighting of the bird itself. I tend to prefer either a complete silhouette or more lighting on the bird itself. Just personal taste.

Some judicious fill flash might have helped here.

Agree with Randy on all counts. In addition, I'm feeling like I'd like a little more roon at the top. The problem with that is, while it gives some more space on the upper wing tip, it also lowers the birds face which is already not optimal?
