    Default Red-breasted Sapsucker

I had a brief experience with this species on Saturday. It was great! I love how proud this guy looks :)

Excellent exposure, sharpness, and details. Love how the puffed up breast echoes the bulge in the tree. I like the placement of the bird low in the frame too.

Beautiful image Glenn taken in not that easy conditions. I am not sure about the composition though. Maybe more room at the bottom and less at the top.

Cool bird, I like the angle, eye contact, soft light, trunk and BG and would only sharpen a tad less.

Killer as noted above. Too bad you don't have one of those expensive cameras that everyone is lusting after; maybe then you could make something really good...

This image of course is beyond superb: killer pose, perch, BKGR, and species. Not to mention the excellent use of fill flash; do you remember your flash setting?

    Thanks Artie!

I believe I had the flash at - 1 2/3. That is my standard fill flash setting and I adjust from that point usually.

    Happy holidays!

YAW Glenn. Thanks for the fill flash setting. BTW, I forgot to ask, were you in One-Shot AF or AI Servo and which sensor was active?

What a terrific image. I like the composition exactly as posted. The bulge in the tree, the gorgeous background, HA, and a great bird. Very nicely done!

This guy was quite still and I chose to use one shot. I positioned the focus point closest to the eye and then re-composed the shot as needed...

Great shot Glenn, love the way the tail and the hump in the tree work together. A super pose and mossy perch.

Normally I view a image and move on. Looked at it several times last night and first thing this morning. It's just a very well executed image with a gorgeous subject that's captivating.

There are just two points that keep it from perfection IMO and I will probably be bashed for making them. The moss left edge center seems slightly disproportionately OOF compared to the relative sharpness of the moss directly above and below. I also wish the tip of the tail was fully visible.

The bird sure look proud and you should be too for taking such a wonderful image.
Love the color, the sharpness, details, vertical pose on the hump of the tree, the background. Good use of fill flash too. Excellent! Just wish that the full tail is visible.

Glenn, nothing to add that hasn't been said before. Just wanted to add my congrats. Loved the colors and the details in the black feathers. Real good use of fill flash. A lot to learn here.
