This is a pretty tame heron who hangs out in Beacon Hill Park, Victoria.
Just a slight crop, a bit of sharpening and brushing highlights in the background.

Casper, how lucky you are to have a relatively "tame" heron around, lol!! This is a nice portrait. If it were mine, I think I would have tried for just a little more of the neck, and more room to the left, so as not to cut those crest feathers off. I would also select the whites and lower the highlights a bit, to bring back the detail in them.
Hi Casper,
I like the composition, image and capture. I agree with Anita's fine critique. I would also tame or blend in the white horizontal line intersecting the bird's bill...nice catch, looking forward to your next one...
Can add a couple to the already mentioned. Your have the camera set on Program, would suggest Aperture priority so you can take control, wide open for blurring bg or stopping for dof .. your choice.
Also give the exposure compensation if you can, will help in critiques !! ... this one seems a little over !!!
There's a lot of contrast there that was well handled. The only thing that bothers me is that the back crest feathers end right at the edge of the frame, making me thing that they may be clipped slightly, so I like to see 1/4" more canvas there.
Great capture Caspar. Lots of details. would have liked to see the rest of the long feathers on the head and a little head turn. Surprised the HA police didn't get you.
