    Default Resting Purple Sandpiper

I spent a very pleasant morning with Artie, Denise and Michael at Barnegat Light before the snow storm is going to move in. This Purple Sandpiper was quite cooperative, it is the same bird that Artie posted in his BAA Bulletin. The image is almost full frame, just cropped a bit for composition. I liked the relaxed pose and water flowing around the leg and on the back you can see a little bit of purple.

Nice shot Axel it looks as if it was very cold by how fluffed up this bird is. The pose angle and details are excellent.

Excellent work young man! :) I really like the eye contact and the swirling water. I guess it was very cold as I can only see one leg, which means it must have had its other one pulled up to keep warm. Congrats!

Thanks, James and Ákos! It was not too bad, we had 19F (-7C) this morning. I was surprised that the sandpiper didn't mind having its foot submerged in water. They must be pretty tough.

Axel, It was the coldest morning out there yet. This image looks familiar! Nice full frame shot w/ great details and I like the water coming up onto the rock also.:)

Ha! Not sure if I prefer your 19F or our current 104F! They both take a toll! But I suppose the cold wins since you can wear more clothes but you can't wear an air-con unit on your back!!! :D

Let's say it that way, on my way back I was happy that my car has heated seats. :) But then, at least we don't have to deal with bush fires.

Hi Axel, Pleasing composition and I agree with the positives comments above. I especially fine the flowing water on the rock and around the bird's foot to be interesting. Thanks for sharing!

Axel....that water sure looks good. More than anything else, I liked the light and the sharpness.

Wonderful light, flowing water, feather detail! And the bird perfectly framed between the rocks. A very handsome image.

Lovely, Axel. I like the colours and especially how the rocks seem to cup the fluffed contour of the bird - frozen water movement looks like ice which reinforces the cold feel. Good job.
