This morning I found Mr. and Mrs. Scaup cruising together lazily on the cold water surface. I caught the lady as she came up, still dripping, from a rare dive. The image is minimally tweaked. C&C, please.

Wendell, the first thing that struck me about your image is the beautiful hue and smoothness of the water. Really, really nice! Nice detail in the scaup too and the dripping water is neat! You might sharpen the eye a bit. Looks like may have lost detail in the white patch behind the bill. Overall, very pleasing!

Good suggestions by Anita, just softer light is needed !! Not much you can do to hold detail in the whites, the dark area by the side of the head looks about right.

Well exposed, good feel and nicely framed !!!

Hi Wendell. The water droplet looks great on the bird's bill, and I like the calm water. I think you might have been able to hold the whites if you had taken 1/3 off of your exposure.

Hi Doug I was going by the reflection for thinking the whites would be toast, normally the reflection is about one stop under (in comparison) and even that is a bit over. One under would block the whites, tough situation. Btw when they are perfectly still I'm starting to try HDR .. worth a try :)
