Gorgeous image of this barred owl and I love the composition too. Excellent detail and eye contact. My only wish would be for a tad more room at the top but still a wonderful capture as presented . I would love to have this in my files Malcolm.
    Congratulations and thanks for sharing.

One more stunning owl image. I would just suggest to place it a bit lower in the frame.

Nice shot Malcolm. Sharpness looks good to me. The sharp beak and that gleam in the eye bring it together. I actually like the high placement of the bird - seems to emphasize the vertical nature of the image. We could hope for less branch clutter in the lower BG but I think they are soft enough to not be a distraction. I might also try to remove that greyish patch above the head and clone in the yellowish BG. These owls are really putting on a show this year!

The bird looks great and I like the included habitat, which gives a sense of place but doesn't overpower. I would lighten the bird's left eye a bit.

I like the soft light, sharpness and inclusion of the habitat. Another vote for more room at the top and lightening of the left eye or alternatively, enhancing the catchlight a bit.

excellent shot Malcolm, more room on top might help... we had a good day yesterday with these owls, and saw 5,.. but it was very chilly!

Hi Malcolm, I also really like the inclusion of the habitat. Nice pose with good detail in the bird. Another vote for lightening the left eye.

Thanks for the comments everyone, I had wondered about the headroom and the left eye.
