Default First Snowy of the Year

Today I drove west of home and found this Snowy on a barn roof, wind was howling, temps were in the -4F range but wind made it much colder...I couldn't get very close (private property sign) so I used my 1.7x converter on my 300 (poor man's 500..LOLOL).

A gust of wind came up and nearly blew this owl off his perch, I guess talons don't work well on metal roofs...I know its not the best image but shows how hardy these owls are...side light didn't help either. I didn't want to tone down the whites to much so blowing snow would show.
Its just great to see these owls back...

Let's hope that they find it too cold up there and prefer the 'balmy' temperatures around here. :) Low temperature is 16F (-8C) tonight.

Good action shot Paul. I can sympathize with the bird who is probably questioning the wisdom of moving south for the winter.

Good for you to get the first one out of the way. Hopefully more will follow. Raining today in Iqaluit so they might just turn around and go back! Nice action shot of a tough bird. Dave

Paul, I love these owls the most. Nice job w/ the pose and I like the snow blowing in the BG.
