One of our winter visitors
I've seen these before up north but, their name escapes me.

Hi Brian, this is a male House Sparrow. Native to the Old World and introduced to N.A. during the late 19th century. It is quite aggressive towards our indigenous cavity nesters (e.g. bluebirds, swallows) and considered a pest in many areas of North America. It is, however a beautiful bird, and it can be quite entertaining to watch a flock of these guys.
