At Shamvura in Caprivi in October. Dave held a torch which facilitated a manual focus. A short time later, I took a pic of the moon - reduced it in size and cloned the old moon into position...!

This is a beautiful image Nevil. I especially like the soft light on the bird. However, I am not sure it really belongs in here as it is basically a digitaly created image as it is composed of two separate images. Having said that, if the oof moon was exactly in the same place as the cloned one - I guess it is kind of kosher....:D
I love this image but I would like to see the moon OOF so that the scene looked natural.
I like the stare and composition. I think it is a personal choice to have the moon in focus and think what Marina means is that we wouldn't see bird and moon in focus at the same time, only if we refocus quickly.
A very evocative image. The sharpness of the moon is an interesting question. My eye travels back and forth between moon and owl eyes. I don't know whether this would remain true with an oof moon. Might be worth a further experiment. In any event, it's a lovely creation.
A very interesting photo and good for you to get it. Whether the moon is in focus or out I suppose is a personal choice. For me, the important thing is that a major change was made and mentioned. I like the shot because of the association of both the moon and owls with night. Dave
