I photographed this Black-crowned Night Heron flying over the rapids at Lasalle Quebec. The light was fading and this is the only shot that came out relatively sharp. Some light and dark spots were toned down in the background. Nikon D200, Nikkor 70-200 + TC 1.7 @ 340mm. F/6.3, 1/250, ISO 400. EC +0.7.

I love the top view, full wing position and the nice BG, eye is nice and sharp however too much noise reduction has destroyed the feather detail especially in the shoulder and back areas. Very nice image TFS

Thanks for the comments Arash, no NR was done on the bird. I think it's just a result of the slow SS.

Geez you were close. :) This is fabulous, well almost perfect, but for the fact it's just flying away. If it were angled toward you and coming toward you that would have made this very strong. Still like it lots though! :)

I like the angle, flyby and look-back pose. It would have been even stronger with the bird flying toward you. It looks as if the positive EC was not necessary which would have helped with the shutter speed, too.

First off, I cannot tell you how much I love this one. The light, pose, and sharpness on the eye are exquisite. Everything about this image says soft and loverly. I do wish that the horizon line did not fall in the middle. There is a big green cast. The look-back head angle is great and the BKGR luscious. I fixed the cast with an average blur color balance.
