    Default Pileated Portrait II

This male pileated woodpecker was playing peek-a-boo with me while I was setup to film other birds near the feeders.
I was working with the video on the 5DII and was in live view mode when the opportunity presented itself. This was shot from live view mode.
I was amazed that I got it and that the bird stayed there.

    Canon 5DII, 500mm f/4 IS, 2xTCII, ISO 100, 1/80 sec, f/13, fill flash at -2Ev.

    I like this ,
Will--love the light, eye contact and the clarity--with the hint of "peek-a-boo"
I would like to see a bit more room at the bottom of this one if it is there.

Thanks Bonnie, That is the bottom of the frame. I did crop a little off the top for a 4x5 ratio.

Hi Wil - I didn't think I'd like this shot much from the thumbnail but when I opened it I had a wow moment! Very unique shot and the eye is really sharp and intense. It doesn't have "crazy eye" like I often see in these birds. Feather detail is great on the neck and you didn't overdo the reds as is common with this guy. Cool composition as well. Well done.

Sharp where needed. The OOF tree is a little distracting (minor nit) Love the detail.

    A very pretty capture Wil,

I love the light and shadow, especially the tip of the beak slightly shaded with the highlight from above. Very glad the subtle fill-flash let's us see detail in the shadows without spoiling the little drama they lend.
    Nicely done.

    I like it!

Very nice work with the flash, without burning the whites! Nice head angle too:)
