Buff Breasted Paradise Kingfisher - Migrates from New Guinea to nest in termite mounds in far north queensland.
Reds were toast - the colours on these guys are electric - applied a slight cooling filter to bring the reds back into line.
Buffy wasn't all that co-operative - wanted to spend all his time high up in the canopy and digging out termite mounds (Didnt bother him when he was busy doing this) Buffy is usually a lot more co-operative - could be that I was a little early with my visit and maybe because their had been no significant rain.
He sure was a challenge hidden back in the undergrowth most of the time - had to try and get a angle on hi through the trees.

Yep could have increased the ISO - though with the flash didnt see a whole lot of point - Know I can get down to at least 1/15th and get a sharp image.
Lance, this is one beautiful bird and despite the difficulties you report, a terrific image - doesn't look like you had trouble at all, lol!! Clean background, decent perch, fabulous colors, great detail, super head angle. I do see noise in the background. Only other thing I can think of is possibly a small crop from left and top to take him more out of the center; but looks good as is too.
I think you did a good job recovering the red. Love the sharpness, the feather details, the looking back pose with tail going off in diagonal, and the perch. Agree with Anita about running NR on the background.
This is one killer image and capture Mr. Peters, well done. The color rendition is very good, I like the dark green background, making your little guy pop...:) The noise factor mentioned, the rest is 100%...by the way, I like the camera and lens combo...very good choice...
Neat bird - getting this image seems like a testimony to knowing one's equipment really well. The composition works very well despite the awkward angle. Super photo in very challenging situation. If it were mine, I'd feel very good about this one.
Maybe -it just a tad soft?
Cheers
