    Default A Bird in Hand

    Attached Images Attached Images

In late September, while putting water in one of two bird baths in the front yard, I notice a small bird sitting on the fence.

While I was hosing the one bath, it flew down right beside me on the adjacent one.

Then I noticed it was a baby, just learning to fly.

I called my son Chris to come and see it, as he likes nature things.

The bird flew to the sidewalk, and I had Chris pick it up, as there are two cats in the neighborhood -- one's ours.

While he gently held it, I took the photo below.

After he released it, it flew to the fence, and then back to the ground by the bird bath.

When it couldn't get to the water, Chris picked it up again to help it, and after a drink, it walked up his arm and rested on his back.

After a brief visit, he returned the baby to the fence, and soon its parents were in the close-by tree, to gather it up and bring it home. :)

I just love those kind of stories! I helped many a baby bird on its journey when I was a little girl and they are some of my fondest memories. Beautiful and tender image, Bill.

After drinking, the bird walked all the way up Chris' arm, onto his back.

Here's the baby goldfinch at the nape of his neck as he leans fully forward.

Thanks Nicki, Harshad and Judy. :)

We all have little events like this, and before we know it they're lost in life's blur.

I'm grateful that we are so fortunate to have the BPN community to share these experiences.

Very sweet story and the cutest little baby goldfinch. TFS. It's nice to hear about the good in the world, even when it's a small slice.:)
