I really like the oof pine bark bg and the owl stands out well from it. I feel the yellow areas on the perch and red wood pulp distracts a bit- maybe selectively toning down the red and yellow there will make it less noticeable.

This GHO looks just like my cats head when it's p*ssed :)

Crop is a little tight on the top but I think it works here. Had the bird been looking up with eyes wide open (more optimal) I would have wanted a bit more room at the top.

Agree with Amy about the reds...I think if they were especially toned won on the underside of the broken limb and on the trunk in the background, it would make a big difference and the bird would blend in a whole lot better....which is what you were trying to convey.

Exposure and sharpness of the bird itself looks perfect to my eyes.

Very nice colours and excellent techs. Slightly tight for me.

Hey Steve... I like the inclusion of the background/bark as you mentioned, and also that it's oof just enough to let the sharp, detailed owl stand out.

Composition is very tight in my opinion, sharpness is perfect and not sure about the BG... it is really busy but, at the same time, it matches the colors and pattern of the owl´s plumage very well and I like that.

Love the owl, love the BG, Steve. I wish the perch were a bit more attractive--but .....that what it is on.
    Very nice!
