    Wow. Looks like a Cassegrain telescope design. Or, if it has a corrector plate, maybe a Schmidt-Cassegrain.

    You can already buy large telescopes with excellent performance. Check out Celestron and Meade, for example. Mirror systems perform much better than lenses once you get that large, but you still have the doughnut out of focus issues. I didn't see a price, but you can get Schmidt Cassegrain telescopes for prices similar to and less than 600 and 500 mm lenses. Note, in the video, the heat wave distortions at those extreme magnifications. Except for that, could be great for those really distant birds. It would be nice if someone came out with canon and nikon autofocus focusers to put on a telescope. But you can focus with live view.
