Default Sandhill Crane a la Peggy Flemming

Had fun sitting below the berm @ Bosque (on my butt rug b/c the ground was so cold.) The SHC were taking off on ice and their agility under the circumstances was astounding. Every once in a while, one would crash and burn.

    Canon 40D, Canon 400 DO
    F5.6, 1/500sec, ISO 400, manual mode
    Handheld while sitting.

    C & C always welcomed and appreciated.

    Hi Marina,
I like the running on air pose. The blurred back foot gives you a sense of motion.

Marina, Nice skater pose and I like the details. The BG colors and ice are lovely. Does the crane have a slight cast? Very nice details in the head. How do you like that lens?

This is nicely done and the pose is killer. You could make a case for sitting on the road or even for standing so that the far shoreline was eliminated. I love the perfect row of feathers in the foreground.

I too was drawn to the feathers, a nice added element. Being Super picky with this comment, but I'd burn the tip of the beak a bit so that it stands out a bit from the water. Really fun image, Marina.

Really nice, Marina. They were doing a lot of dancing! :>)
Good shooting from a cold bum position!
I left there on Monday--got one more day of shooting in on Sunday.

Lovely pose and detail. Love the colours of the plumage echoed in the ice and BG.

When the crane pools are full it's difficult to get a shot like this. I like waiting until most of them have left, when you can really isolate a subject as you did here. They are great fun to photograph as they pick up speed, and you've captured one extremely well here. I think there is a slight magenta cast to the image.

Hi Marina. Great action pose with just enough blur to give a sense of motion. The ice and the row of feathers really adds interest to the image. Well done.
