    Default Hooded Merganser Female

one last shot from last week (i promise).
The good thing about this forum is that it forces me to spend more time working on images i post here, since the level of photography is so high.
Typically, when i post to flickr i don't spend a lot of time processing as i am documenting the days birds, posting stuff here however, the microscope is out :)

    Here is a re-processed shot, what's the verdict? :)

    Camera: Nikon D300
    Exposure: 0.008 sec (1/125)
    Aperture: f/5.6
    Focal Length: 500 mm
    ISO Speed: 250
    Exposure Bias: -5/3 EV
    Flash: On, Return detected

    thanks for looking..

I really like it, especially with the background color and patterns.

I might have cropped a bit more off the bottom and done a little shadows / highlight work to open up the bird just a little more. A bit more room on the left would be nice as well....but it's still a nice image :)

awesome photography man. fabulous work with D300 -5/3 EV :)
i think a little more aperture may be f7.1 or 8 would have covered the back tail also in sharp focus IMHO.

Killer background and lots of detail in the subjects. Very sharp and well exposed. Agree on cropping some off the bottom for a stronger composition taking the bird off center. Really nice image!

Paul....loved it all the way. the combo of colorful BG and not-so-colorful bird makes this striking in a different way. One more vote for crop from below. Since there are horizontal lines in the BG and the beak is strong horizontal line( plus the horizontal feather lines), pano will have more impact. my 2 cents.

I have stopped uploading to flickr now :-)

Paul, awesome photo. Lots of detail and the water is fabulous. I'd like to have this on my wall. Love it.

Very nice photo Paul. I like that even with the very strong bg, the more muted and subtle colours of the bird come through. Well done and looking forward to other North Shore shots.
I agree, it is a really good web site for improving skills. Dave

What a killer image all around, and the BG is out of this world. I would crop from the bottom to the top of the first orange band.
