    Default Another Angle

Same Barred Owl as my previous post, but a different angle. This to me this was the once in a lifetime moment, with the sun almost gone and that wonderful golden hue on the bird. I moved around as fast as possible without spooking him, to get different backgrounds. I have photos of the bird looking directly at me, but I really prefer this guy/gal looking away as it looks more natural to me. Not too keen about the tree in the bg on the left but the light on the bird was the best at this angle. Constructive C&C appreciated as always.

Would have liked if there was a bit more light on the right side too. That said this is one sharp image , and the owl is a beauty !!

I agree with the suggestion to brighten it up a bit - Specifically the shaded side of the owl but not the background. I might also try to brighten some of the left side edges of the post - which would create a stonger leading line.

Congratulations on getting to see and photograph this wonderful bird up close.

Funny as it is a tad brighter on my site, must be an algorithm thing. :)

    Mike...

I like the pose, perch, background and sharpness.

I like the side lighting but I might try doing a bit of brightening of the non lit side...just a hair.

Beautiful image, Mike. Love the light and comp and I really like the head angle with the bird looking out of the frame at something in its environment (leaving you to wonder what it is seeing), rather than just staring at the camera.

This is one of the best barred owl shots I've seen. The light here is exquisite. I like your choice of composition. The only thing I might do is see if there a way to pump a little more light into the eye on the shadowed side. Very nice. TFS

This image looks spectacular to my eyes.
I actually love the side-lighting here just the way it is; I wouldn't change a thing.
Would love to see this bird in the wild; I can imagine what a thrill it must have been to capture such a great image. Congrats!

With that perch and the distant background it would have been difficult to create a less then spectacular image. I even like the sidelight (because it is so soft).

Beautiful perch and pose Mike, I very much like the way you captured him looking away. The light is to die for and on my monitor it is perfect, wouldn't change anything.

Very nice low light shot Mike. The high ISO is hardly noticeable. :)
