Port Lincoln Parrot (Barnardius zonarius occidentalis) Wycliffe Well NT Australia
Canon EOS 40D Lens 100-400mm L IS USM at 400mm ISO 400 F10.0 /1600 27 September 2009
Out early on a very cool and windy morning at Wycliffe Well NT near a dam adjacent to and part of Big4 Caravan Park a pair of Port Lincoln Parrots landed then proceeded to enjoy the sun. This image is one of the pair .No flash was used as I felt that it might spook them. This subspecies of the Australian Ringneck is a spectacular bird.
Earlier on this Forum I showed a Mallee form of this species see: http://www.birdphotographers.net/for...alian+ringneck
This a complicated species group that ranges over much of the Australian Continent.
This link goes someway to displaying this interesting group of parrots at this ABC website : http://www2.abc.net.au/science/birds/as ... lay&id=117
Thanks for viewing

Wonderful pose Rod and nice light. There appears to be a little bit of noise around the belly and undertail coverts that you might want to play with. Yet to get a shot of this species - well done.
I love the pose too, but I might want to crop in a bit tighter and it's a shame the tail is quite hidden. I'm also not sure if it's my eyes or what, but there seems to be a bit of a halo around the bird. I may be imagining it though!
Lovely shot, with nice colours, and I like the texture that the angle of the light has provided.
