    Default Snowy Owl

Spent a special few days photographing this female in Northern Missouri this past Feb. Very rare for this far south and she was amazing to observe. Even though this look may not look like it, she was very comfortable with my presence and hunted around me all morning this particular day. I was there before the sun came up and left her late that day while she was still in that same field.

    D300, 600VR, f/5.6, ISO 400, 1/1000th SS, -.3EV, CW Metering

In post I toned down some darker areas in the BG. The bg is a CRP field she was hunting next to but there were some darker patches of scrub brush scattered throughout the field. I also cloned out some mess on the post...as this was one of her favorite perches to sit on.

Hope you enjoyed, C&C always welcome.

Hi Jason - I love the smug look on this critters face. I like his mustache as well. Beautiful shot. I would have loved to been with you around this guy.

Very Nice shot Jason! I know where suppose to give feedback. About the only feed back I can give is I might have cropped the picture in a portrait instead of landscape! The space to the left is what I call dead space and nothing to look at so why have it? I understand why we leave space in front of a bird flying ect. Other than that which isn't anything big lol :) I can't find anything really wrong with this image! I'll second Danny I wished I could have been there with my D300 and 600vr as well :)

Jason I love the stare but I would also go for a portrait format presentation.

Love the light and background Jason, I think the suggestions for changing the crop would enhance this image.

Thanks for all the replies...and since so many have suggested a vertical crop, here is one. For print though...I will have to go larger as this was a decent crop and I want to retain some pixels for print size.

    Is this better now?

Wonderful exposure on the snowy. Background is just killer for this. I prefer the horizontal crop as originally presented.

Love this image, I am a sucker for owls, especially snoweys. I also prefer the original crop.
