Just wanted to share one more shot from the session last week on golden pond.
I particularly adore the little Buffleheads as they scoot around the pond, chasing girls and strutting their stuff.
This shot appeals to me because of the visible foot, it's such a bubble-gum colour :)
It was hard to get him in one place however, and in the right light.
Camera: Nikon D300
Exposure: 1/320
Aperture: f/5.6
Focal Length: 500 mm
ISO Speed: 250
Exposure Bias: -1 EV

Wonderful colours!! I love the "brushstrokes" in the water. I'm with you for the foot, very neat. The tail seems oversharpened with those jaggies. I may crop below to just above the two lower longer reflection lines.
Great foot color indeed, but the BG is just fantastic. Great shot.
I would probably try to get rid of some of the brightest water drops,
especially the one on the bird's back.
I am with Daniel on the oversharpening and the crop. Because of the relatively low shooting angle, the reflection was going to be distorted, and there is just enough water action to further distort it.
Paul - I've really enjoyed this series and this has been a highlighted as the bufflehead has always been on my dream list. Thanks for all the beautiful colors.
Paul I love the water colour. the exposure and the foot. The buffleheads around here keep well out in the river so I've never seen one this close before.
just WOW...great colors. awesome species. The BG is quite special because of both the colors and the brush strokes. The buffleheads have arrived here for the winter.....too far out on the water though. Even through my binocs, I could not see them this well. very envious of you :-)
Though this is luscious and I am envious I believe that it could be improved by reducing the SAT across the board, darkening the pupil and lightening the iris just a tad, and sharpening the feathers of the face.
