Here I am in Hawaii and I'm faced with brilliant sunshine during most of the day. This is a Black necked Stilt taken on Maui at the Kealia Ponds. A misnomer at the present as there isn't much water or ponds here. I need help taming the harsh lighting. To be fair I haven't been out near sunrise as this is a vacation after all:D. I do plan to be out earlier on a few days though. The BG isn't as I wanted but these were the only birds there at the time. I only have my un-calibrated lap top with me so bear that in mind.

    Hi Roy,
I like the capture. The lighting was coming in from the side, thus producing shadows on your subject. I would suggest cropping a little from the top and from the right side of the frame. The eye need a bit more of selective sharpening. You had more room to play with on the shutter speed and the ISO...looking forward to your next one Sir...

Alf, where I was there was no way to step to my right as I was under a bridge and next to a bank. I tried to get the cleanest BG I could but they wouldn't cooperate. Tonight I found a wetland and saw Stilts, coots and Hawaiian ducks. All endangered. I will try tomorrow morning but don't know how successful I'll be as it is surrounded by a predator net so I will have to shoot through that.
One interesting about the Stilt is that it is the shorebird to nest in Maui, all others are transients.
