    Default GIMP

Any thoughts on using GIMP? I am kind of stuck, in that between LR and Elements I get 95% of what I need, but there are a handful of things I can do in Photoshop that I can't in those two. So, I'm reluctant to pay that much money for that little added value, but I'm wondering if GIMP might be a solution. I'm particularly interested in those of you who have used one or both enough to comment from the voice of experience.

I've been using GIMP for years and years, going back to the days when my entire photography investment was a Canon A510 3.2 megapixel compact, and even before. It's certainly usable.

Maybe you could say what are the "handful of things I can do in Photoshop that I can't do in [LR and Elements]."

I have used gimp in the past but it did not do 16-bit. Does it yet?

GIMP as far as I can tell won't do 16-bit. Not sure Elements fully supports 16-bit either, though.

So what are GIMP's biggest limitations relative to Photoshop?

That depends very much on your usage but obvious biggies are 16-bit, patch tool, and refine edge which GIMP does not have.
