Jumping on the bandwagon here...with a baby Southern Ground Squirrel.

Taken in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park pretty much where Betsie took her shot. This little fella was standing on the edge of the den in the shade of a camelthorn tree. Actually taken from the car window and not lying down in the dirt :)

Cute one, Morkel. Not down in the dirt?? Steve K will have a chat with you re POV:):)
I guess we are so used to staying in the car that one tends to forget you can take low down shots inside the camps (but then again, there are nasty scorpions about :).
Like the eye contact & fur detail.
Don't you have a tree squirrel to share? None in my digital files, poor ones on film:).

    thanks Bhai & Betsie...

I actually have a tree squirrel taken in Kruger - will post tomorrow (dang I forgot about that one!)

this was literally as we were driving out of the camp for a game drive and I snapped a quick one of the young one.

Nice image, the smaller creatures deserve more attention.

I have a tree squirrel, which I'll try to post before departing on our trip.

Nice pic of the cute little guy. I really wouldn't know you didn't get any lower than a car window. :) I like the colors and comp on this one.

Nice shot Morkel. As Betsie said. Maybe not a bad thing not getting on the ground for this as other nasty little things like the shade too. Good comp and pose.

Hi Morkel, well surprise, surprise, I am not going to say 'a lower POV' on this one as I feel the angle is about right. The reason being is the the BG is really fairly no descript and therefore helps the little fellow stand out IMHO. I guess if you had a lower POV you probably would have had bush or scrub behind which might not have been ideal. Might be tempted to clone out the two black 'blobs' in the BG but again, that is a personal view. Just perhaps watch the sharpening I think? Once you have your final image for posting try something like 20-80/0.3/0, the first can vary and might give a better, more natural look. Hope I am not treading on toes here.

    cheers

    thanks everyone!

Steve - I normally run one or two rounds of 125%,0.2px rather than 0.3px as it often tends to oversharpen at 0.3px IMO, think I might have run one round too much here :)

Cute little guy and those feet look like they were made for digging.
