Why wouldn't it be "clean enough" for BPN.

Everything is sharp where it needs to be and I like the slight wing blur showing motion. Great timing.

Killer pose. Love the outstretched feet and head. And yes, clean enough for me. Looks as if it needs a CW rotation. Bummer about the stained breast and belly.

    Is this full frame?

Fantastic Jan - I am still trying for such an image. Gorgeous background and lighting. While a wonderful stop-action shot, it almost seems too "stopped" for me - almost like a museum mount (not always a bad thing thing!). I think I would prefer to see the shot about 0.1 seconds later when the feet just hit the water and create a splash that demonstrates the action. Having said that, I wish I had this shot in my collection!

@ Artie, It's around 90 % of full frame. The Mark IIn file had about 3200 pix on the long side left after cropping. I just cropped a bit from the top and left.
They got that orange cast on their bellies really fast. Guess the ponds were quite dirty.Even one week after their arrival they had stose stained breasts...

Thanks Jan. As I suspected. That would put the central sensor at least on the neck. Were you using that or AAFPS (45-point)?

@ Artie, no I was using the central sensor only. You are right about the focus. The sharpest spot is on the white at the neck. Here I used F8, so the sharpness is still good enough at the head.
With Pintails I found quite often that the 45 points will rather jump on the grey or the white than on the brown head.

I figgered the central sensor and the crop. Robert O'Toole was great with 45 point and the MII bodies.

It somehow depends on the situations. I found it hard to work with them when the bird is very big in the frame
