It does look a little "tropical" from the bird's standpoint but I love the colors, Gus. It's always nice to have that punch of color in the winter time.

Default Elegant Trogon seen in snow

Elegant Trogon in snow: Madera Canyon

Having struck out many times on this bird, I managed a late afternoon hike Sat. Feb. 7 in Madera Canyon after a business trip in Tucson this weekend. In the rain/snow I happened to catch a male Elegant Trogon out in the open for about a minute while looking down toward the canyon from the scrubby oaks on the trail on the south side. I wish I had some photos to show, because the experience of seeing this tropical bird on a snowy mountain in the US was surreal.

    some other noteworthy birds present:
    Brown Creeper
    Townsend's Warbler (2)
    Mexican Jay

    Also seen today in snow , , , , ,

I figured that that might have been the case....
