Was there another Great Blue around? This is a threat display. Nice pose and love the wing in the water. If you did in fact use the metered exposure, I would venture that the whites are blown. With that camera, fairly bright sun, and the dark background, I would have started at -2/3; -1 to be sure. I do like the head against the black.

Assuming that you have ABPII you gotta study to learn.... If not, you need to get a copy and study "Exposure Simplified."

    Todd:

Striking pose. Artie mentioned the hot whites on the face. The dark background components here are really going to push the exposure too far to the right for whites.

I might crop a bit different, up a bit from the bottom, in a bit from right, and add a smidge to the top, but the comp. is certainly nice as is.

    Todd:

I had a second, so reduced the exposure on the bird and did highlight recovery in ACR. The whties on the face are still hot, but better.
Then quick masked the bird, and brought the exposure back up in the background (it had gone too dark with the adjustments for the bird.)

Recropped as mentioned. Matter of personal choice on the crop, but I do think the bird displays better with less exposure.

    Cheers

    Randy
