This is an old one from my trip to the Coto Doņana wetlands in southern Spain in May this year. Taken along the long and potholed dustroad to the Valverde visitors center in the heart of the national park. The image seems a bit grainy, probably as a result of using the TC and the considerable crop. All comments welcome.

Panasonic DMC-FZ18, resting on car window, 83 mm (500 mm eq.), Nikon 1.7 TC-E17ED, ISO-100, F/5, 1/1000 sec, EC -0.3, pattern metering, aperture priority, RAW.
RAW processing in Silkypix, PP in Corel Photopaint. Minor tweaks on exposure, levels and sharpness. Considerable cropping for composition.

Good-looking specimen, good eye contact and angle. The fence is a bit overpowering but there is not much you could have done about it. It would be nice to see the bird's tail and I would run NR on the BG.

A real handsome bird Jerry, one I've never seen.

And a pretty well-focused shot I think, despite the telephoto and crop. I'd suggest a vertical crop eliminating much of the right side, to maintain attention more on the bird and less on the prison camp he's guarding. ;)
My biggest problem here tho, is some pretty severe jpeg artefacting, which at first look I thot was noise... It seems that after all your work in post you just compressed the finished file too much.

    hope this helps,

    Kenn

    Hi Jerry,

Nice to see one of your shots as well, I like the bird, the eye contact, and BG. Hope you are doing great! I think the noise is pretty noticable! If you didn't sharpen selectively I would do so just for the bird. Doing some noise reduction on the BG like Axel suggested is a good idea as well.

I think you should buy a different camara man! Decent D-SLRs are not that expensive anymore especially on marktplaats and apart from making a huge difference in the quality of your shots you will have a lot of fun with it. You are ready!!!

Hope to see you in the future!

    Cheers,

I like the way the fence and the brown on the book go together, nice and sharp its a great shot though i agree about the noise.
