    Today was the first time I had seen this bird over at a pond in Willcox, AZ. I can't find a match in Sibley's. Let me know what it might be. Comments welcome as well as name.

    This is a male bufflehead. Skiddish little buggers here on LI, sure wish I had this in my files! (Personally, I'd recompse this image so he's not swimming out of the frame. Beautiful irredescent colors on his head well shown by you.

    Thanks Grace. May try a different crop - there was duck just left of where I cropped.

    I agree with the cropping suggestion. Nice job with tis contrasty subject. We have lots of them here in coastal Alaska, but getting near one is another story.
