I took the Nikon D300s and 200-400 f4 VR (rented units) for a spin yesterday just to see what it feels like.

Must say I am VERY impressed...absolutely NO processing applied here except dropping levels in RAW by 2 thirds, cropping away about 20% and sharpening after resizing.

    Techs:
    Nikon D300s with Nikkor 200-400mm f4 VR @ 400mm
    f4.0 @ 1/1600 SS @ ISO-400
    Exp +0.3

Not yet seen one of these, over on the west side we have the very similar Bontebok.

For no processing, the image looks great. Nice color and light as well.

Meant to say on my last post Morkel, how detailed this is. You can see the scent gland on the snout. Nice one. Go and enjoy, but hope to heck if you pass away suddenly, your good wife doesn't sell it for what you told her you'll paid for it..... re the exposure bit, Nikon is pretty cool and would have expected to be at -0.3 to start with, as those whites need that sort of thing. (you addd +0.3 then took 0.66 off.. got there... but better in camera). BTW. Shoot lossless compressed too. No difference and saves space. One of their many little tricks...

I sold it to fund the 500VR, as much as I miss the zoom capabilities of the 200-400, it's not quite in the same league as the prime IMO. It makes for a really nice combo with the D3.
