    Default Channel-billed Cuckoo

A large raucous bird that migrates into our area for Spring and Summer. Yet another of the birds in my yard- took this from my front deck. I hope I can get a better shot sometime but they spend most of their time up in the canopy looking for Phasmid insects- as this one is doing.

The angle and setting might not be ideal but it's great to see this species. I like the pose and eye contact in this one. This seems to be a rather large cuckoo, do you know the size?

Thanks Axel, they are around 60cm head to tail so quite large and they place eggs in the nests of birds about 3/4 of their size.

As good a shot as I've of this species Colin - well done. As you said, they're usually way up in the canopy. While it's a busy background I like the detail you've been able to capture that allows the bird to stand out, particularly the eye.

    cheers
