This image was taken at Estero Lagoon in Fort Myers Florida. Thought I would give this one a try for my first post.

Welcome again and very nice first post. I like the captured moment and reflection. I might be tempted to lighten the water a bit. Why did you dial in positive exposure compensation? Please post the techs with images and keep them coming!

Welcome Todd, (I'm pretty new here myself... so absorb my comments accordingly ;))

I really like this shot... your capture of the capture (tiny fish), reflection, good focus, and pretty good control of the whites (regardless of your EC choice). I expect difficulty exposing an all-white bird in bright sun and you captured pretty good detail without any pixel blown it seems. I do see some jpeg artefacts and assume your original save was of better over-all quality. I like the composition also.

    Show us more! :)

welcome to the forum, very nice first post. Looks pretty good to me, sharp, nice background, head angle is good and eye contact. Might like a bit more detail in the whites, but these birds are really tough.

    Big welcome, Todd.

Very nice composition, and good action captured. I see some faint color artifacts in the whites, probably cause in Curves?

Hi Todd, Is that you? Welcome and thanks for your membership support. I love the image especially with the bill tip and the neck in the water. And yes, let's see the technical data. Was this with the MIII?

Hi Kenn, If there are no blown pixels as seems likely then the + compensation was right-on. The histogram never lies. And it looks to me as if the sun here was anything but bright. It looks like early morning to me. And even if the sun were out at full strength the exposure is a snap with digital. Just push the histogram to the right as far as possible without having more than a very few flashing highlights and every exposure will be as good as you can get.... No matter the tonality of the subject or the BKGR or anything else....

It's all in "Exposure Simplified" in ABP II: https://store.birdsasart.com/shop/ca....aspx?catid=32

    Artie,

Yes it is me. I should have come on along time ago, always good to get feedback and learn from it. This picture was taken back in 2007 and don't remember much about it. The techs for the image are:

    Canon EOS-1D Mark II
    Shutter speed: 1/1000 sec
    Aperture: 8
    Exposure compensation: +2/3
    Metering mode: Multi-segment
    ISO: 400
    Lens: 600mm
    Focal length: 600mm
    Date/Time: 2007:03:11 21:114

thanks for all the feedback so far

Great posture, beautiful exposure on the whites. Head could perhaps do with another round of sharpening?
