"songlark" is false advertising - more like a creaky door on speed as they soar into the air like a demented clockwork toy before parachuting to the ground or a prominent perch. When they land they cock their tail like this however this individual didn't until I actually took the first shot and noise of the camera saw it shoot straight up for about 10 seconds before it decided it would prefer to be elsewhere.

I like the pose, eye contact and BG. Softer light would have made it even stronger.

That surprised look plus tail up makes this one. Like the BG and sharp details too. Thanks for sharing the image and story, Rob. (Another 1DIIN person, I see- we seem to be a tad in the minority:))

Nice shot rob, I especially like the pose of the bird! The perch is a bit big but in some way it complements the bird, nice BG. With a few steps to the right the light angle would have been perfect and the harsher light wouldn't have been so noticable. I love what it (the light) did for the details in the feathers though. Very nice shot

I like the pose and don't mind the big perch. The BG is excellent. Nice work!

Very interesting looking bird. It does look like a bit of a character and you have captured it well with the upright pose. Nice and sharp and and bg works very well. Dave
