Taken in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. The couple were mating and the grass was long, but at last he stood up :)

Magnificent lion! Cropped from landscape to portrait.

Good detail Morkel. Is he licking his lips, or checking scent?

BTW have you lightened the eyes?

thanks Steve - seemed to be licking his lips after copulating (after copulating a lot of saliva started frothing at his mouth)

I didn't lighten the eyes or work on them at all

Fine, they just looked quite bright with no shadow/darkness, just an observation.

I suppose he went for a lie down, LOL. Think not, he was probably going for 'Gold' over the next twelve hours!!!

I think the morning sun just hit them full on - he was looking East.

haha - they went at least twice more in the next 10 minutes before we had to push on...

Hey Morkel - A real winner here with the milky eyes, pink tongue and battle scars. I like the tight fit in the frame as well. Excellent catch!

Bad hair day with great detail in the fur.
Massive head and nose well portrayed with tongue a plus.

Well he's certainly not the best looking male Lion I've seen, but the licking
of the lips and that battle scared muzzle really tell a story, a great portrait well captured Morkel.

    thanks Danny, Charles and Marc.

Marc - given he's an old warrior past his prime as far as looks go, but he's long been king of his turf in that particular area of KTP.

Quite tatty but who cares? I've seen far worse in terms of scarring and receding hairline.

    The tongue makes this image!

thanks for viewing and commenting Ajit, Dave, Fabs, Harshadbhai, Ken & Betsie...

Marc - I'm sure he did, haven't really followed him or seen him before this but others have ID-ed him for me as the long-reigning male of this region.
